We’ve created this blog for educators. It is designed to provide information and updates about the Reflective Circles Education Model (RCEM)—an innovative model of peer supervision that fosters critical self-reflection and professional growth in educational settings.  We will also share other ideas that advance peer supervision through critically reflective practice in education, and serve as a resource hub.  

What is the RCEM?

The Reflective Circles Education Model (RCEM) is grounded in the belief that educators benefit most when reflection is collaborative, structured, and critically engaged. Building on five years of pilot studies, the RCEM had been refined and shaped to meet the diverse needs of both schools and educators. At its core, the RCEM is a peer supervision model that creates safe, supportive spaces where educators can: 

• • Engage in meaningful, critical reflection 
  • Share professional experiences openly 
  • Challenge assumptions and perspectives 
  • Strengthen practice through collective insight 
  • Build supportive professional relationships 

Why does it matter? 

The RCEM is a structured approach that enables principals, teachers, and support staff to reflect collaboratively on their work, including the complex and often challenging relationships they navigate with students, families, and the wider school community.  Through Reflective Circle practice, educators with a small group of peers, analyse their experiences,  exploring their responses and considering alternative perspectives. This evidence-based approach supports personal and professional growth and strengthens teaching practices. The RCEM can also help disrupt the cycle of stress and fatigue that contributes to teacher burnout, ultimately supporting a more positive and responsive classroom climate.
